About The Material Girl Inc
It took more than a few years of talking about it and a year to do the research and write the business plan, then when my third child arrived, I realized that was all the motivation I needed to get started and open the doors to The Material Girl Fabric & Quilting Supplies Store on August 5, 2006. With my 2 year old in tow, I pursued my dream of owning my own business.
I bring my passion for textiles, background in business management and interior design, mix those skills up with a little retro flare for fun and I have created a store for every age. The Material Girl offers quality designer fabrics, notions, and a fun selection of new and old vintage gift items and provides a diversity of sewing and quilting classes.
After six years in our original location, our store moved to our Windsor Town Green location. The layout has a more open feel, complete with our class room setting and our "Inspiriation Corner," where our customers can relax in a comfy chair and browse through books and magazines to get inspired. Soon our Inspiration Corner will be equiped with a computer for customers to create a sewing project. Our childrens classes continue to expand and it continues to be my wish to offer classes in Spanish.
In 2007 I had the opportunity to organize and hold Windsor’s first annual Quilt show, with portions of the proceeds donated to the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life Race and I always have some special fabrics set aside for the cause. My dream and hope was that the annual Quilt show would grow bigger each year and we would have the opportunity to raise more money and awareness for a cause that I believe will make a difference. I am happy to say that the Quilt show has become a successful annual event and continues to grow each year.
Overall, I would like to extend out an invitation to visit our store. Even if you do not sew, we are sure there is a little something special for The Material Girl in you!
